cmi speaker management

If you’ve run a business you know finding the right people to help you accomplish your dream is a very challenging thing.  Instead of hiring anyone, you may have tried to go it alone.

In running my business over 17 years I have experienced being the so-called “chef, host, busboy, clerk, PR, HR, owner, waiter, janitor, distributor, designer and lawyer” all at the same time.

Trust me – it’s not a good idea.

Through the nearly 2 decades I have tried and failed to surround myself with those that caught my vision, or in most cases, found great people who understood it, but then I took an unexpected detour and ruined everything once again. Business for me has been a long and hard earned “Experience MBA” without the degree and having lost hundreds of thousands in mistakes.

To say I haven’t had great teams in the past would be a lie. A few people have worked with me in the creative side, web development, IT, accounting, financial planning, and assisting near a decade of their putting up with me.

However, I have really struggled to find the right team that could help me make the gigantic U-Turn needed to go from “The Entertainer” to “Keynote Speaker who is still entertaining”. That’s a BIG shift for me AND my clients.

Welcome cmi speaker management!

Karen Harris has done amazing things for speaking friends of mine, such as Ty Bennett and Vinh Giang.  I have watched her from afar for years, hoping she would be interested in being my agent. In October 2016 that was realized and we signed the contract.

Dreams do come true folks, not just at Disneyland but also between Alberta and Utah.

I don’t remember the last time I was this freed up to work on what I should be working on rather than what I shouldn’t.  Not having to chase the sell, nor keeping track of the details, rather working at improving on my craft and positioning myself as the Speaker I want to be known as.  Make the difference I see in my mind’s eye. It’s incredible.

Karen’s team at cmi has made this possible.

Sure, we’re in the honeymoon stage still, I get it, but I couldn’t be more grateful for the past 7 months working together.

In December 2016 I took a trip to Calgary to meet the cmi team. Lo and behold they are real people, who work in the same office, not satellites that can’t keep track of what’s going on. They are fun, wicked smart, savvy, visionary, and fun – I said that twice, but that’s their culture. They are honest, careful, caring, and they LISTEN.  Once they understand the direction they attack.

I’ve never worked with a team like this and just hope to keep proving that I should be on their amazing roster, check it out if you want to see some of the most successful speakers in the world.

What does this have to do with The Promise message I share?

Easy: The Promise to The Family (those we work with) is letting them do what they’re great at, which in turn allows me to be freed up to be the best I can be.

Mine is nose wiggling and making that a teaching point.

Mine is singing in voices and being funny on stage and helping you realize how you have your talents, too.

Mine is teaching through stories, anecdotes, entertaining & writing blogs….

Mine is not accounting, travel details, keeping track of the last sales conversation, or softly nudging a client to consider firming up the gig.  When I do that I’m a bull in a china shop.  cmi are a team of unicorns on a white cloud of effective, efficient business success, and in their abilities I am a witness and so greatly admire their awesomeness.

Here’s a link to The Team – they’re all amazing – I’m honored to be a part.

And I promise to stop doing the office work, the metaphorical restaurant of “dishes and setting the table and cooking the food and doing the HR and PR and hosting and seating and serving and all else”, because I know my cmi Team has all things I’m truly not good at covered due to their great abilities in the event planning and speaker management industry.  I trust them and am thrilled to work with them daily.

Which allows me to go be good on stage, for the client, and ultimately keep my Promise to The Audience, The Family and The One.
