The ETA on CEP from NSA is ASAP

  There are so many acronyms nowadays its tough to know which ones not to use. IYKYK Thankfully, an organization I have belonged to for over 20 years, the National Speakers Association, has put together a new designation that is yet another acronym worth knowing: CEP – Certified Emcee Professional     I am pleased to be recognized in the CEP Charter Group along with some of my outstanding Emcee peers: Quinn Conyers Tom Pesce Rob Ferre Dr. Genie Snyder     To earn this designation I documented: • 100+ events over five years, with client names, dates and fees • 10 client evaluations, scored by the people who hired me • Video from real stages, not a sizzle reel • Verified income from emcee work across multiple years Emceeing and hosting events is a discipline, and shouldn’t ever really be left to someone on your team (unless they’re incredible at it, which is ridiculously rare). Rocket Man Meets Piano Man: Corporate Entertainment That Gets the Room Singing with Elton & Billy

Today I received an email from a client and friend who has had me speak, perform, emcee, and help with their events in the past. They are one of my favorite groups of all-time. How pleased I was to get the email subject line written above. That may be one of my favorite email subject lines I’ve ever read. I can’t wait for this opportunity, and the many other events that are in our future. The Villages: A Dream Come True

  For 26 years I have been told I should perform in very specific markets, as they would love my show: Las Vegas, NV Branson, MO Atlantic City, NJ Cruise ships worldwide Every Casino possible Corporate and Education events The Villages, FL   Having conquered the first 6, thankful for the chance to entertain audiences of all kinds, it was a question as to how and when I would ever have the time or opportunity to perform at The Villages near Orlando, Florida. Last weekend my moment finally arrived! If you don’t know what The Villages are, its one of the most fascinating community developments in the world, dedicated to those aged 55+ active adults who are committed to staying healthy, agile, and forever young. An estimated 75,000 homes dot the landscape, with over 100,000 residents.  Located an hour outside of Orlando, Florida, The Villages has endless town squares that look like Disneyland’s Main Street, more golf holes in one place than anywhere on the planet, and you can hear pickleball being played the entire day. How FFA Kids Helped Me Refocus My Presentation

It had been years since I agreed to talk with a group of youth. Why? Because something shifted in those audiences a few years back for me, and I haven’t dared return. So, there I was, standing back stage as the arena filled in with over 11,000 FFA youth from across Ohio. I never feel nervous before an event. I feel excited, anxious, and generally confident in what I’m about to do. Of course, there are those feelings inside of imposter syndrome or being tired from a bad night’s sleep in a hotel, but this day was different. I felt sick to my stomach. There is always a moment before stepping on stage that most people don’t think about unless you’re the one waiting to be introduced. The room is set. The audience is waiting. The expectation is there. And in that moment, it’s easy for the focus to turn inward. You begin to have a conversation with yourself: How will this go? Will this connect? Will this be received the way I hope? Those are natural questions. But over time, I’ve found they aren’t the most helpful ones. Because they center everything on you, the performer/speaker/presenter. Launch: The Jason Hewlett Show podcast and livestream broadcast

The other day I was scrolling. Ok, I admit: doomscrolling. I got sucked into that vortex of news: negative stories of tragedy, confrontation, arguments, debates, which devolved into anger, sadness and hate rapidly. Realizing I was going on this path, I took a moment to check my algorithm and was amazed at how easily we can be caught up in going down this slippery slope. To cleanse myself of the feeling of ick all over my mind and spirit, I went to happier places: looked up a Mr. Rogers video, Bob Ross painting some clouds, found some spiritually uplifting speeches, gave room for hymnals that inspired, searched for feel good videos and stories that I could share with my children: A boy with mental disabilities suddenly celebrated for hitting 3 pointers in a basketball game; An artist painting with 10 hanging buckets, spinning colors of the rainbow in circles to a giant canvas; A cat massaging and doing chiropractic work on its golden retriever brother…   Then the baby goats showed up, dancing and prancing on benches, backed by Julie Andrews singing “The Sound of Music” and all was right with my world and algorithms. Don’t Read The Comments

If you want to feel bad about yourself, go ahead and read the comments. Truly, some of the worst days of my life have come when I accidentally stumbled upon the very public thoughts of keyboard warriors insulting me from the safety of their parent’s basement covered in Cheetos and self-righteous indignation. Want to see what I mean? Scroll through the comments on this video of my routine that gets a standing ovation at pretty much every event performance I’ve ever shared it with. LOL! “I’m not laughing.”  “Boring.”  “Move on…nothing funny here, folks.” (7 likes) “I’ve either lost my sense of Humor, or the drink minimum at that club is way too high.” (17 likes)       The comments are not always terrible. Somehow, the video with the most views (below), near half a million across multiple platforms, and the longest version of my act available online, has great comments unless you really dig to find the bad ones. And that’s a nice thing to see that it’s fairly positive.     Comments on YouTube videos are the equivalent of reviews on Amazon. I Tore My Jaw On Stage. Now What?

Hi. I make a living opening my mouth – to speak, make people laugh, and sing at the top of my lungs. This unique attribute of opening my mouth extra wide has become so prevalent in my presentations it is known as my Signature Move, and was even once the cover of my book (although that was a terrible choice and has mostly disappeared from the face of the earth, thank goodness). If you find a copy just know it is a rare thing! On December 2, 2025 I was asked to speak to a group of young folks by a very successful friend of mine. I haven’t spoken to youth in a while, for many reasons, but mostly because the style of entertainment I do is so foreign to their TikTok attention spans it is tough to feel like it’s connecting. The First $100 Gig – The Chipmunk Song by Alvin & The Chipmunks

  “The Chipmunk Song”, by Alvin & The Chipmunks, is a Christmas classic. For 3 decades now I have sung this song in every performance, regardless of the time of year, I just love it that much. In fact, 25 years ago, I was slated to do a 15 minute set at my first corporate holiday party, but due to the way the night went, the client told me to just sing this song and they would still pay me $100. I thought, “Wow, $100 for one song? That’s like $100 a minute! I should make a living doing this!” Walking to the stage, bright lights and client hoping for the song to land, I sang it without any tracks, AKA “a cappella”, and the crowd went bonkers, giving me a standing ovation. It was solidified corporate holiday party gold. Yearbook Photos Promise

  Do you remember yearbook photo day? I sure don’t. This past week I have tried with all my might to recall those times, with little success, as all that lives on are the final product, which for me was never the photo I’d hoped it would turn out to be, and so I’ve hidden those books and photos away. Rather than dig my yearbooks out of bins in the attic and prove to you that I look far better today as a silver fox than I did back then as a mix between Bert, Ernie, and Opie from The Andy Griffith Show, I instead share with you the funniest yearbook photos idea I’ve ever seen, compliments of my own sons. My boys have decided to make as many moments fun and memorable as possible, this is their Promise to themselves, and it equally enriches our lives as parents and family.
