Valentine’s Day Promise

Hey Fellas,

Have you ever woken up on Valentine’s Day, gone to work, laboriously moved about your day, drive home in that zombie-like state, walk in the door, and suddenly you feel the familiar sensation of pit in the stomach meets despair?

Yes, most of us have all been there.

You forgot it was Valentine’s Day.  And there stands your partner, chocolates and card in hand for you, awaiting the gift you so thoughtfully remembered.

You are stuck.  Or you can pretend you saw nothing, back slowly away and through the door, and run to 7-Eleven to grab some Slim Jims and plastic roses – which actually would be worse than nothing at all.

The Valentine’s Day Promise is simple: Remember Your Loved One.

That’s it!

What is your problem?

Trust me, whether it’s the anniversary you spaced, the birthday so close to another holiday it slipped the mind, or this important occasion, you can get through this.

Here’s what you do.

Grovel.

Beg.

Plead.

Go to the mattress and grab all the cash you have and hand it to her as your apology.

No, don’t do that.

Instead, say very calmly, “Let me go in my office and get your present.  Give me a minute.”

Now, you write the greatest love note of all-time, buy a gift card on Amazon, pluck a nose hair to begin to cry, and ask her where the massage oil is to offer the world’s most amazing massage.

Of course this is all crazy…but may get you through it (raise eyebrow, Jack Black smile).

All I’m saying is DON’T EVER FORGET THESE DAYS.

Mark it on the Calendar – perhaps a day early – with the old reminder, “Buy Her Something This Time!”

Truth is, she doesn’t care how much it costs, where you got it, or how long you thought about it.  All the Valentine wants is to know that you remembered.

That’s it.

So – go grab your Lover, dip her and plant a huge smacker, turn on some Righteous Brothers, throw some clay on the pottery wheel, do the dishes, declare your love on Facebook, text your Mother-In-Law that you love her, too, and be the man you were meant to be.

A Promise Keeper of The Valentine’s Day Promise!
