How Scrambled Eggs became Yesterday

The Beatles song “Yesterday” was originally written as “Scrambled Eggs”

Here are the original lyrics –

“Scrambled eggs

Have an omelet with some muenster cheese

Put the dishes in the wash bin please

So I can eat more scrambled eggs.

Scrambled eggs

How I really, really love your legs…”

At least, this is how the legend of the song and story goes, and can be verified all over the history of The Beatles record books.

When Paul McCartney presented this song to his mates, John Lennon loved it so much they laughed their way through toying with it for every sound check.

Eventually they asked their producer, George Martin, if they could record the song as is.

He told them no.

Sir George Martin told the greatest singer songwriters on earth that it wasn’t the right lyric for such a beautiful melody.

Fix the words, it will fix the song.

John was ticked, as he loved the funny song.

Paul eventually had a dream and rewrote the lyrics to be:

“Yesterday, all my troubles seem so far away…

Now it looks as though they’re here to stay

Oh I believe in yesterday.”

The song has been re-recorded over 4,000 times by various artists.

Many believe it’s the greatest song ever written.

Paul was instructed to sing it solo, without the band, and it was a legendary hit.

We wouldn’t have those lyrics, or that recording, if George Martin hadn’t been certain enough in his Signature Move as a producer,

As a Legendary Leader

As someone who tells it like it is,

To keep a Promise to himself, and the band, to always push them to be even better.

Even though they were The Beatles.

And that’s WHY they were The Beatles.

Have you heard this story before?

Some people think I made the lyrics to Scrambled Eggs up, but nope!  It’s for real.
