The Promise of Rock Star Leadership – Appreciating The Team

Do you remember the last time someone told you that you were great at something?

Sitting in my office, the female executive sat wondering what might be her Signature Move.  It had been manifest our entire conversation, yet even in her fifties she couldn’t place it.

When she asked me if I could see what makes her unique, I told her she is brilliant at humor, storytelling, a survivor and fighter, and capable of making a normal experience come alive!

She began to cry.

No one had ever told her before.

It was obvious to me but nearly impossible for her to realize.

The Promise of Rock Star Leadership begins with the willingness to point out to those we work with and interact with that they have a gift.

This is The Promise at it’s highest level of engagement.

Whether it’s giving the waiter a pat on the back and saying, “I admire your good attitude and prompt nature”, writing a note to your son, slipping it in his lunchbox, telling him he’s capable of anything he puts his mind to, or emailing someone you work with to remind them they have the gift of incredible organization, in what ways are you practicing Rock Star Leadership?

Rock Stars stand on stage and do extraordinary things.

They give 100%.

They sing the hits while singing their heart out.

They share their Signature Moves in their own amazingly unique way.

And they highlight those around them whom they recognize as having amazing gifts as well.

Here is one of my favorite videos of all-time, sharing the stage and giving my Ella an opportunity to shine.

In this week’s message I share the example of a Team turned Work Family who is currently making it’s way to the NBA Finals.

The Golden State Warriors are one of the best teams in NBA history.

Yes, they have great shooters on their team.

But more importantly, they pass the ball.

A lot.

How often do you pass the ball, or share the opportunity, with those around you?

I hope you enjoy this video and ask you –

In what ways are you manifesting Rock Star Leadership?

  1. With such demands on our time I chose to read one or two blogs a day. I have included yours each time I get the email. Filled with truth, and the promise. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Means a great deal my friend! I actually cut these back to only sending once a month because of the time demand I know it takes to read them, so when we went back to weekly I was worried it would be too much, so yes I understand and appreciate it greatly my friend!
