Royal wanted me to carve this football pumpkin!?!
As if I’m Leonardo da Pumpkin carver.
I tried my best, and Royal held up my “sorry son, this is the best I can do” attempt, loud and proud!
And then he carved his own pumpkin, gleefully stabbing it in the head in the photo & video below!
As I walked up the mountain today, on my final hike of the year on a road in Butterfield Canyon that will soon be closed, I passed a young couple with babies in their backpacks.
Ahhhh, the good old days!
That was quite the season of life!
There have been many since.
It struck me when I got home, and Royal was begging me to carve a pumpkin, that wow, he’s the only one of my children left that wants to carve a pumpkin with dad! Sad. But JOYOUS! Thankful we still get to carve a pumpkin together and be excited about it.
Perhaps the football above is the final pumpkin carving for me as a dad?
As he grows up and runs off for Halloween, like the older ones do now, it is fun to reflect on the good ole days when they wanted to hold hands, go only with us to Trick or Treat together!
I’m grateful we did those things, as they don’t come back. In fact, they not only don’t come back, but they race off in a fury once those teens years hit!
And equally, now, as the teens are growing up and prefer hanging with friends, we have to press the Find A Phone search button to get them to come home before midnight!
How do we Keep The Promise to Enjoy The Season we are in?
The Answer: #BePresent
Glad I got to carve today’s pumpkin!
We’ll see what next year brings.
Happy Halloween!
