A month ago I was leading a Speaker training & retreat with my colleague and master coach, Cheryl Knowlton. It was our final retreat and will always be a memory I’ll never forget to work with her and our students.
I glanced over at the couch and was admiring the muscles bulging from my friend and fellow speaker Ernie Harker’s shirt. As I looked closer I realized he was drawing someone in the room.
He is known for his ability to draw people on stage or in the audience, and gifts them to friends, to an always stunned reaction, since he’s masterful at this talent turned skill turned Signature Move and Promise.
I was shocked to see that I was the subject of this drawing!
I have been all over the world and, for years, received perhaps some of the most offensive and bizarre quick drawn, paid for, portraits/caricatures someone can have drawn of them, often times in an attempt to embarrass the one being drawn.
But as I looked over Ernie’s shoulder I was ecstatic to think it looked incredible, and was flattering to say the least!
An artist must focus on the Signature Moves features that stand out of the person, and better get it right, in order for us to recognize what has been expressed.
The artist must also leave out features that don’t add to the telling of the story, as difficult as it can be to do so, this may be the most important part of being an artist who is great – subtracting what doesn’t add to the art.
From what I see here, he nailed it, and that is a Promise in and of itself.
Here is the final product:
When someone shares their gifts, it is truly a gift to the world.
The Signature Moves each person cultivates blesses others when it is showcased, expressed, and not hidden.
Ernie has lifted many brands and companies to new heights with his skills as an artist, marketer, branding expert, and contagious optimism.
As a Speaker, it has been incredible to see him succeed, hyping and pumping up audiences to embrace their greatness and be drawn to new heights.
If Ernie didn’t raise his voice, lift his pen, and be a light, he would break The Promise.
I hope you take inspiration from Ernie Harker, and consider him for your next event, because you may not enjoy a speaker more – just make sure he tells you his story about hanging out with Chuck Norris – “Carlos” – and you can thank me later.
Thank you Ernie, for the drawing, it is incredible.
