Reading and watching the news we were horrified to learn about the Thailand boys soccer team trapped in a cave with little possibility of rescue due to rising storm waters and a maze of tunnels.
Maybe you said a little prayer for them, thought of your own children, and then we went back to our life and work. I know that’s what I did.
And then there is Elon Musk.
His first thought was, “What can we do to help?”
Some have accused Musk of a PR stunt, and the ensuing wreckage that are the accusations and name calling has been quite ugly and unfortunate.
If we can look at the positive, and give Musk the benefit of the doubt, let’s consider that he was truly being helpful.
As Mr. Rogers makes his comeback (finally and rightly so), with a movie you must see that is taking America by storm, the quote comes to mind:
At some point in our lives we make a promise to ourselves subconsciously to either sit back and feel bad about what is happening to others, or spring into action when we see something we can be helpful about.
Boys stuck in a cave in a life-threatening situation on the other side of the world makes us terrified but we feel there is nothing we can do.
And then there are people who keep a promise to do whatever they can.
Hurricane season is on it’s way, the U.S. experienced its last recession over a decade ago, and a mother with crying children in tow is trying to fit her carry-on in the overhead bin. There are easy moments to jump into action, other times it’s more complicated.
PR stunt or not, I give Musk my gratitude for his trying to create a solution, and being someone who keeps a promise to the world to do great things to solve problems.

Once again, profound and wise. You offer the opportunity to take a different perspective on many things in life.
Missed another National Speakers Association convention. Heard it was great.
Would have loved to see Mark LeBlanc and Kit Welchin from Mn receive their CSP awards. ( and to reconnect with you). Many blessings,
Louise
We missed you Louise, hope you are well, and thank you as always for the comment!
You have a great perspective on this. You are your promise and your promise is you —- or something like that. LOVE how you’ve combined this with your Signature Moves message.
More to the point, thanks for pushing back and giving Musk the credit he’s due for doing something!
Love you Raptor-Man!
Thank you brother, that means a great deal. I love how The Promise works in so many ways in the world we live in.
