June 2019 I wrote a blog entitled 5 Summers, here’s a link if you didn’t see it.
I just got choked up looking at it. Oh my.
I’m updating that post to be called, the sobering title of: 1 Summer Left
That’s all we’ve got, and this is the busiest summer to date!
We will have 3 meals as a family together in June: 2 Sunday dinners and my Father’s Day breakfast. That’s it!?!
Every kid is somewhere and everywhere all at once the entire summer.
Our main job as parents for 10 weeks is to make sure we don’t miss anything on the calendar, and to be 2 weeks ahead of every moment…yet we are still spacing deadlines, waivers, missing passport and flight info…it’s hard to keep track of all things at once.
Here’s what we looked like then –
Here’s what we look like now, as this was taken on Father’s Day, June 18, 2023 –
Yes, I now look like their grandpa, time has aged me quickly.
They all have amazing hair.
Even the dog was included this time. Good Goldie!
I used to write extensively about Quantity Time vs. Quality Time. Now I am seeing that it’s not about 1 Summer, it’s about Every Moment.
Every precious moment.
Every interaction.
Every inflection of my voice, every word I choose, every ounce of energy for the empowering or not.
It’s a choice.
It’s The Promise every day. A reminder to be our best with every moment.
1 Summer Left with our Ella, the eldest, as a child.
Soon she’ll be 18 and who knows what she’ll do, where she’ll go, if she’ll stick around, if she’ll blast off into the world of her dreams and aspirations.
Whatever she decides I am grateful for every moment, for today, and Promise I am here when she sails by and blows a kiss.

Thank you Zaira, I’m glad it did so. My best to you.
Oh Jason this is so tender! I can’t believe there’s only 1 more summer before she graduates and decides where her future takes her! She is so beautiful and such a bright light in our lives! I love this girl with all my heart! I hope she stays close to us forever!💗
Thank you for these kind words. She is a wonderful girl, and yes, it will be awesome to see what she does with this amazing life ahead of her. Thank you for being a most huge influence in her life, and an incredible Grandmother to her.
