The Signature Moves of Christmas

When you think of the word “Christmas” what comes to mind?

When I was kid it was way different than it is now.

As a kid it was

What am I going to get?

How much am I going to get?

What is the latest I can go to bed and Santa will still show up?

As a parent it’s shifted a bit

What do the kids want?

How can we afford it?

Can we top last year?

Did I forget to move the dang Elf again!?

That kind of thing.

In this case I’m focusing completely on gifts, but you get the point.

We all see Christmas and this Holiday Season quite differently, but what are the Signature Moves of Christmas to you?

Some of my Signature Moves are hanging with Santa

And then the questions beg:

What are YOUR Signature Moves at this time of year?

What do others expect from you?

For years my wife, Tami, made homemade rocky road and we took it around to neighbors and close friends.

A few years ago we just had too much going on and the rocky road went unmade and undelivered.

You would have thought the wifi went out in Utah for a week!

People were up in arms – texts, emails, messages – “We are waiting by the door for Tami’s rocky road…are we no longer friends?  What happened?”  Oh the insanity!

To the extent we set an expectation to others our Signature Moves must be delivered or we have broken a Promise we never realized we made!

So, what are your Signature Moves this time of year?  Because if they go undelivered then you have broken The Promise.

Consider it with your children, loved ones, parents, clients, co-workers, and self.

Today you are reading this 2 days before the big day of celebration, however, Christmas and this time of giving and love for others can continue throughout the year of course.

The call to your aging Mother.

The appreciation of a neighbor who has volunteered in Cub Scouts for your boys.

A social media post acknowledging and sharing your beliefs.

The handwritten note of love to your partner.

The visit to the sacred places and traditions that make this month so special.

Whatever yours are, they affect you as well as all those that await your gifting of such special uniqueness only you can share.

Those are your Signature Moves.

What are they this time of year?

Just remember, that is how you keep Promises you may not even realize you’ve made, but everyone is waiting for your Signature Moves to bless their lives this time of year.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and thank you for being a significant part of my life.
