Rocket Man Meets Piano Man: Corporate Entertainment That Gets the Room Singing with Elton & Billy

“And I think it’s gonna be a long, long time, ’til touchdown brings me ’round again to find I’m not the man they think I am at home. Oh, no, no, no. I’m a Rocket Man! Burnin’ out his fuse up here alone.”

EMAIL SUBJECT LINE: Could Billy and Elton Come to Our Leadership Conference?

Today I received an email from a client and friend who has had me speak, perform, emcee, and help with their events in the past. They are one of my favorite groups of all-time. How pleased I was to get the email subject line written above.

That may be one of my favorite email subject lines I’ve ever read. I can’t wait for this opportunity, and the many other events that are in our future.

What I really love is that this NEW Show is a NEW Offering for those who have enjoyed my work in the past.

Storytime:

I remember the first time I sang Elton’s John’s massive song, “Rocket Man”.

The way the audience lit up when the chorus hit was inspiring. People of all ages singing their hearts out, raising their lighters (yes, this was a while ago and before iPhones with lights), embracing each other for the love of the song.

It made me realize how special these songs are to generations of people. Not just some, but all.

Best part? When someone doesn’t know Elton John or Billy Joel’s music, being surrounded by those who are loving it and singing every word, pretty soon that rare person unfamiliar to these legends is falling in love with it, too. The songs are just too good not to enjoy.

Here are some song segments from the show:

A little background:

Near the start of my career I was an Elton John impersonator. Maybe you’ve heard the story of how I failed to get the part at first, later figured out the voice, re-auditioned, and became Elton for the Las Vegas Legends in Concert show. That was 2002. Before that I was Ricky Martin…and that’s a whole other story!

What’s funny is that I didn’t know Elton’s music until 2001 when one of my stage performing pals told me my Ricky Martin stint would be short lived as his songs weren’t legendary enough, and that I could pull off looking like Elton John if I wore my glasses right. His name was Kenny, he was in the Blues Brothers act, he was incredible. He was right, I was a dead ringer for young Elton

He lent me some of his CD’s and I began listening to Elton. Soon my ears were exploding with joy. How had I not known this music? I fell in love in that instant with Elton John’s music and Bernie Taupin’s lyrics. Next came figuring out the piano parts, and within a year I had the job.

If you asked anyone, they would have guessed I’d be Billy Joel, since I had played “Piano Man” as my first song on the piano at 17.

But I look and sound nothing like him.

Luckily, I can still sing the songs fairly well, and the audience would be shocked as I would wrap up my 60 minute corporate entertainment show of various music impressions by sitting at the piano, after an hour of comedy and silliness, and putting on the harmonica, laying into Billy’s “Piano Man.”

Standing ovations for decades, that’s what kind of song it is.

A few years ago I was approached by my friends at Hale Centre Theatre, one of the most celebrated establishments in the world of performing, who asked if I could do a musical tribute to Elton & Billy. Mixing in my comedy, stories and impressions for a full night, 100-minute show at their world class facility. I was ecstatic. I said yes, and they sent out the first promotion about the shows. The entire run sold out faster than the ink had dried on the contract.

2 weeks worth of shows by yours truly in my hometown of Sandy, UT.

That’s when I realized I actually didn’t know all of the music I was to perform. I had only played a few Elton songs, and one Billy Joel.

2024 was a wild summer getting ready for the shows. With HCT’s masterful production team, promotions, and storytelling, we assembled an excellent band, and wrapped my baby grand piano from my home in glitter and bedazzled jewels. The next thing we knew, we were performing 2 shows per day for sold out audiences every day and night of the run.

The show as so popular and in demand, Hale decided to have me return the following year to do it again. Those also sold out and we had to double up dates. Crazy and wonderful.

This was one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life.

I share all of this because this show is a home run and your audience will love this unbelievably entertaining experience that has been decades in the making.

It is now the GO-TO answer for corporate entertainment and community theaters.

Tickets at HCT were $68, and we filled around 460 seats twice a day! Yeah buddy!

In other words, having me for a corporate event is like bringing the best of Vegas to your people. But it is also Utah friendly, so that makes it special, in that all the music and comedy is appropriate for all ages.

We hope to be in your plans for your next meeting. Let us know if you want to talk about bringing this show to your most important event of the year.

Our promise is to sing the signature songs of the artists you love, your audience will call you a hero for bringing this show to your event, and standing ovations abound with memories that last a lifetime. What could be better? Sing one more with me:

“Sing us a song, you’re the piano man, sing us a song tonight! Well, we’re all in the mood for a melody, and you’ve got us feelin’ alright.”
