Google Me

Picture this: I’m consulting with a client. Telling them they need to update their web site with this, fix the wording on that. We made sure all was right on Amazon with the products, ensured the newsletter was ready for the big upcoming sale, and set up the funnel system to capture all of the interest that would surely be inbound quite soon.

As we went through the critique of their work, efforts, and organization, which is highly successful and a 7-figure per month business, I asked about their Google Reviews.

The team stared at me blankly.

We searched for it. We found reviews on Amazon, Walmart, JudgeMe, and all over Facebook. Very favorable reviews, BTW!

But what about Google Reviews? There were none to be found, and that hurts business in a profound way, at least locally and with SEO marketing efforts.

That’s when I thought about it for myself.

I googled my own name and found a whole bunch of nothin’ in terms of reviews on my business and work:

1 Google Review for this successful guy!

Yep, one kind soul, a dude named Brad whom I’ve never met, went and found whatever seemed like my business on Google, wrong address and all, no other reviews, and left his review. 2 years ago. What a guy! Here it is:

That’s very nice of you, Brad. I hope to meet you someday. I will give you a book. We’ll be best friends.

I imagine this review took him about 30 seconds.

That is very kind of a stranger to do.

And for me, it makes all the difference to have favorable reviews anywhere…but especially Google.

And now here we are.

If you have enjoyed my work, experienced it, are willing to share something on Google, would you be willing to do this for me? 30 seconds maybe?

I am embarrassed to think I have been at this career for over 25 years and had never thought of this need.

As my client and I began the strategy to get the word out for their business, I began to do the same for mine. It is great to be consulting someone and realize you are missing the mark as well.

That’s The Promise: To right behavior as soon you realize there’s an incongruence in what you’re teaching and preaching.ย

And so it is – for years, I’ve asked you to generously leave comments on my YouTube videos, reviews on Facebook, and even a little on LinkedIn.

You’ve always come through for me!

Thank you for helping me with this one, as well. And hey, if you want me to review your business, send me the info and I will. Seriously.

And if there’s any lesson to be learned here, perhaps it is to go check out Google for the business you work for, and if you like it, maybe leave a review for yourself and company to keep you in front of searches.

Thank you!

(back to critiquing other people’s work, even when yours isn’t perfect)

  1. Unfortunately, I have only been to one of Jaysonโ€™s shows. I say unfortunately, because I have not been in proximity to be able to attend any of his other shows. I found his show to be extremely entertaining and just downright lots of fun. Heโ€™s an extremely talented entertainer! If I have an opportunity to see him anytime, I would love to see another show.

  2. Well, Raptor Man, I tried, I tried, I really, really did…

But, Google maps said I’m not nobody, I mean I’m not somebody.

    Whaaaaaa-a-a-a-t?

What does Google maps have to do with this?

I wonder who else might be having difficulties like this. Maybe there are many Brads out there but… well… sigh.

    I give up.
    I’m eighty years old.
I’m going back to Walden Pond.

    Double sigh.
