3 Speaker Tips: How to Follow on Stage Marie Osmond & Olivia Newton-John

Still wondering how this pic happened. Childrens Miracle Network, both Marie Osmond and Olivia Newton-John asked for a photo with me, yelling, “You’re amazing! Who are you?” How bizarre is that? What a great gig and awesome charity. Recently I had the horrific job of following on stage two legends of music, Marie Osmond & Olivia Newton-John, who were busy singing a duet to a media heavy audience. Backstage I could see everyone looking at me as if to say, “And what do you think you’re going to do to follow this?”  It was almost a dare from the AV team and other performers waiting to see how I could go on stage after two of the most accomplished, acclaimed, and beloved performers of all-time. Having been a performer and speaker for over 15 years this kind of thing is where I thrive.  I don’t want to sound cocky, however I have ultimate confidence in my ability to follow anything, and it makes me better to have to follow the best.  So I welcomed the challenge, and in all honesty, had no idea what I should do.  But that doesn’t mean I’m not completely unprepared – as a Speaker I have 25

It is hard to describe how amazing this past weekend was with the people pictured here. Friday & Saturday, January 22 & 23, 2016 was my first official JHE Training on How to Make a Career From The Stage and it went far better than I imagined it would, according to the feedback of the incredible attendees who said it was as good as anything they’ve ever been a part of in the training world for building your business as a Speaker and/or Entertainer.  Just listen to what attendees had to say about it HERE. I Think I Sort of Cheated on My Wife Today

The most bizarre thing happened following the posting of what you’re about to read.  On Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at 11:44 PM I posted on Facebook a few silly and pensive thoughts I had about an experience that day at the store.  The next morning it was gaining steam and by the evening it was going viral.  Within 48 hours we had been contacted by The Today Show, it was featured on Yahoo!, People, Cosmopolitan, and news channels nationwide.  By Friday we were hearing from family members we didn’t know we had, people coming out of the woodwork, with stories of love, reignited passion in relationships, and thankfulness for words shared from a husband’s perspective.  That night I did a show in Utah for a Holiday party and mentioned the post, more than half the room had read it that day!  Incredible.  By Saturday, December 5, my name was “trending” higher than Kim Kardashian, something that will never happen again.  What a wild experience.  If you haven’t seen it yet, here’s the original writing as posted to Facebook, copied here on my blog.  We are still shocked this silly, yet sweet, public journal entry has been seen by millions and

Commitment to Joy: I Am A Speaker!

CONFESSION: Since I was a kid I wanted to be Zig Ziglar, Les Brown, and Tony Robbins more than Jim Carrey, Billy Joel, or Michael Jackson. However, the vehicle to which I knew I must get noticed, to make smiles, and to be heard was via entertaining. I freely admit I used comedy, voices, music, and impressions in Show form to get to where I have gone, and I will always use those as a way to open the hearts of the listener. I respect so highly all of the artists and performers I have known and looked up to.  I am grateful for them.  They inspire me. But my ultimate dream and hope was to entertain with a message, to drive home the idea that we can be inspired through music, comedy, story, and experiences shared together.   I have worked so hard at this, the weaving of a SPEECH that feels like a SHOW but is really a SPEECH but you react like a SHOW.  The meanings all mesh together now.   Today my friend Rita Craig recommended me as a Closing Keynote Speaker for the CareerSource of Florida.  We laughed, we cried, we threw chicken wings, we

Commitment To Joy: Ernie Johnson

If you know anyone with cancer and what they go through, you can understand why someone would GIVE up a great honor in order to honor another. In Keith Olbermann’s words, “A unicorn appeared at the Emmy’s the other night in the form of Ernie Johnson.”  No way to say it better, because what just happened actually never happens in real life. Earlier this year, ESPN legend, Stuart Scott, passed away at 49 years young to cancer, and was memorialized  on the Emmy broadcast early in the night.  Scott was an Emmy nominated host that night following his passing, along with Olbermann, Ernie Johnson, and others, so it was something of a letdown to the audience once Johnson received the winning vote for his 3rd Emmy. However, Ernie Johnson is as good as a person gets.  Having suffered through cancer himself he was quick to recognize the importance of dedicating – NO – giving the award to Stuart Scott’s daughters to place on their home’s mantle “because it really belongs to your Dad” Johnson resolutely stated. I have to say this was about as cool of a thing as anyone can do. Question is: Would you do the same for someone?  Would
