250 Years Later, the Promise Continues
This year, America celebrates an incredible milestone – 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. For most of us, Independence Day is filled with backyard barbecues, parades, family reunions, fireworks, and flags waving in the summer breeze. Those traditions matter. They remind us where we’ve come from and give us a chance to celebrate the remarkable blessings we often take for granted. But birthdays aren’t just about looking backward. They’re also an invitation to look inward. As America turns 250, I’ve found myself asking a simple question: Are we becoming the kind of people who keep the promise we’ve inherited? When the Founding Fathers signed the Declaration of Independence, they weren’t declaring that America had arrived. They were declaring what they hoped America could become. A nation where freedom would be protected. Where opportunity would be earned. Where ordinary people could build extraordinary lives. That vision wasn’t guaranteed. It would require courage. Sacrifice. Personal responsibility. And generation after generation willing to continue the work. For 250 years, that’s exactly what millions of ordinary Americans have done. Not because they were famous. Not because history books would remember their names. But because they quietly chose character over convenience.
