New Year’s Promise

In a few days we ring in the new year and yes, even the new decade of 2020! Millions will set goals this week. Thousands will achieve something of them. Hundreds will stick with those goals all year long and alter their lives for good. Tens will change the world because of what they’ve learned. One will make a Promise which will appear to only change him or herself. Changing The One is enough – as the effect is potentially exponential – and very well may lead back to influencing the millions! Goals are Particulars, Promises are Proclamations.   Set your Goals, make them count, go for it, dream big while establishing little steps to grow. And then consider your ONE Promise, the unbreakable promise, and only make one. One Promise.  One Promise that will alter your life and destiny.  One New Year Promise that will drive you to reach every dream, accomplish every goal.  Run it through the ICM Promise Process – Identify: Ask yourself – What will make the most powerful shift in my life?  Clarify: Whittle down the options to just one, and discuss with those closest to you.  Magnify: Write it out as a Promise Proclamation

Another Kid’s School Concert

By December 10th our family had already been to 7 holiday concerts between school, community events, and church. This past week we faithfully trudged to yet another one…I’m just assuming you’re experiencing the same thing at this time of year! After my daughter’s dance number was over (hers was the first one) we had to wait for her final number.  Yes, an hour of absolute boredom and time-wasting as we watched kid after kid, stranger after stranger, do their mediocre at best dance numbers. I’m embarrassed, even ashamed, to write the thoughts of an honest person here, but you know you’ve felt the same way as well, you’ve just never actually written a post about it. As I suffered along with my sons and wife watching kid-kid-kid-kid-kid take the stage, I wondered what I could do in the meantime: It was too dark in the theater to turn on my phone We were sandwiched in the middle rows, so leaving wasn’t an option I could think through my upcoming event and map out my performance Or I could plan a staged emergency to get the heck out of there, perhaps something about how the Elf on the Shelf at

The $10 Million Bonus

Imagine going to your annual holiday party with the expectations of a normal event: drinks, socializing, reminding your peers of your partner’s name…maybe even reminding your boss that you work there. The executive team welcomes you, surprisingly hands you a red envelope, gathers everyone around to stand and listen to the usual speeches before getting the party started. You are congratulated as a company for putting in the work, making it a great year, pushing to new levels and reaching a $3.5 Billion portfolio. Everyone claps supportively and pats themselves on the back with a sense of pride, but equally one of those feelings of, “Yes, we did it, sure would be nice to get some of the fun that goes along with that.” And then, out of complete shock, you are told that all 198 employees will be sharing a $10 Million bonus based upon tenure. Open your red envelopes! If this doesn’t get your blood pumping I don’t imagine what would. This was the case on December 7, 2019 when St. John Properties did something every company who enjoys massive success should be doing for those that toil to make it possible. The looks on the faces, the

3 AM in Las Vegas

If you’re in Las Vegas and awake at 3 AM, there are only a few reasonable scenarios: You’ve lost so much money that you are doing all you can to win it back…you’re staying at that craps table until the kid’s college fund is replenished! You’re from the East Coast and are used to waking up at 6 AM…with a 3-hour time change you are now up for the day!  Dang-it. You have been fighting pneumonia & bronchitis and have to speak in the morning…so now you are taking every herbal remedy your wife packed to stave off the next level of laryngitis setting in! Can you guess which of these is my current situation? You guessed it: Number 1.  Crazy I know.  I’ve lost my mind. Just kidding, it’s 3, sorry to mess with you for 12 words… Following helping stranded lady in parking lot jump her car from last week’s post, combined with shoveling snow for a week in blizzards, and then a few forgotten homeopathic strategies I always apply before winter sicknesses set in, and WHAM-O, I have been struggling of late to keep from any serious illnesses. Instead of flying to Vegas from SLC, UT,

The Parable of the Car Jump

“Sir!” she shouted as she tapped my closed car window, “Can you help me?  My car needs a jump!” Her words were muffled between the phone call I had just answered and the snow storm outside. I opened the door and shouted through the storm, a bit tersely, “What do you need?” “I left the light on in my car and now it won’t start.  Can you give me a jump?” she replied. All I had done was drive to the gym to get my morning workout in, although it wasn’t A.M. anymore, since I had been out driving my children to school, orthodontist appointments, and made a few detours along the way of service around the community that was unexpected this day for church, family, and friends. Now it was 1 P.M. and the day was slipping away.  To add insult to injury, a blizzard had just blown in and I was underdressed for the storm. Reluctantly, hanging up my phone call, I hopped out of my car to assess the situation: Elderly woman from England Parked with hood in the worst spot possible for a jump, no way could I get my car near hers I would need
