The Leader You Could Be

When was the last time you shopped at JCPenney? Yeah, me neither. Identity crisis killed their store. Jumping from CEO to CEO in the past decade, trying anything and everything to get back into the game, CNN’s story regarding their leadership in “How it all went wrong at JCPenney” by Nathaniel Meyersohn states: “Penny is plagued by a lack of understanding about what it is, what it stands for, and who it wants to serve…”   In other words, they lost their Signature Move in the eyes of their customer and client base, with a self-inflicted wound.  Their audience was

Why Would We Choose You?

Fall 2007, in our neighborhood there were no less than 100 Realtors living in a 250 home radius!  No joke. Who to choose among them? Actually, we chose none of them when we listed our home, although all were capable and even friends of ours! Instead, we went with someone I trusted implicitly, knew was aggressive, but also fair, and would not let up until our home was purchased.  I called him The Hunter.  He went for the kill. He sold our home at our desired price so fast, in fact, that we regrettably had to pull the plug

Your Elusive Signature Move

Question Dear Reader – What makes you Stand Out in this world? We could talk about your business, even your product, but this is about YOU. What makes YOU unique?   Speaking in front of 500 Leaders recently I posed the question, “What is your Signature Move and how are you using it daily in your business as a LEADER?” The blank stares concerned me. Perhaps my Michael Jackson “Moonwalk” metaphor had gone over their heads.     Digging deeper, and even asking for their hands to go up, searching for ideas of what makes them unique, no one

Your Business is Your Promise

Are you confused? Daily I receive comments and questions as follows, both from dear friends and past clients: “So now that you’re not entertaining anymore, what do you do when you speak?” This seems to be a trend and I’m sorry I’ve not communicated this well with so many. When people think of Keynote Speaker they must imagine me standing at a podium/lectern giving the most boring lecture in the history of lectures, using PowerPoint with graphs, charts and diagrams. Yes, that would be a terrible thing for sure. Are you one of those who are confused by what I

LeBron James and The School Principals

This past week LeBron James unveiled his revolutionary, incredibly charitable, giveback to the community where he grew up, new school for kids. The “I Promise” School. He totally stole that name from me…actually, no, but you should read the article about it, amazing. Love the name of the school and used it as an example when speaking to 150 Principals in Utah recently for their annual back to school conference. The question was posed: “How can you be a Promise School this year instead of anything less?” This seemed to pique their brain cells, as they shifted in their
