A Promise to Self: The One

  Tonight a beautiful woman approached me and said, “I’ll never forget the time I heard you speak, it was life-changing.” I thanked her and asked when she’d heard me speak. “It was at Canyon Crest Elementary School when I was in 6th Grade”. I scratched the gray in my beard, grabbed my cane, and hobbled away.   To feel old is one thing. To realize you are is another. Yet few compliments make me more grateful than this one.   Proves the message was lasting and impacting. The Actor’s Promise

  I talk about Jim Carrey a lot.  As in I refer to him in most speeches, shows, in blogs, and in every coaching/training for perfomers. The man is a genius. The man is polarizing. You very well may hate him, but I love him, and this is my blog. More people say I remind them of Jim Carrey than anyone else.  There couldn’t be a greater compliment for me professionally. Even my Kindergarten teacher phoned my parents when “Ace Ventura”, Jim’s first movie, came out, and said, “This actor stole your son’s routine!”  That’s a true compliment. For the first 12 years of this career performing my One-Man Show of Comedy & Music Impressions I ended my show with one routine: Jim Carrey in a normal job situation, working at Subway as a sandwich artist. Is The Promise a Religious Message?

I received an interesting statement from a friend the other day.  He asked, “I thought The Promise was for religious audiences only.” He was surprised I would go with a word – PROMISE – that is generally reserved for spiritual, religious, and very personal matters. Upon creating The Promise I wasn’t thinking along those lines, but actually yes, to be honest, it can go whatever direction you want it to go. The concept of The Promise is so simple that it almost seems too basic – and thus it is constantly overlooked. Fact is, imagine if every company made a promise and kept it to you, and actually lived their Mission Statement? What if every Employee actually kept their promise they made upon being hired and became as good as you hoped they’d become? How cool would it be if every team at work became as trusting and caring as a Family and kept the promise of giving each person their shot at doing their best, trusted for amazing work? Managers Are Mentors

Are you a Manager, Executive, or Leader in your workplace? If so, Congratulations! Why Chick-Fil-A Closes on Sundays
